Zentangle® is a method and process of developing art while relaxing your mind. Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas developed Zentangle. You can find out more about their story by viewing Zentangle.com. I met Rick and Maria during the Certified Zentangle Teacher training I attended in September of this year. Rick and Maria were very knowledgeable, professional and genuine in their teaching.
Over the last year, I have found that Zentangle has added to my life greatly.
1. Zentangle is a simple inexpensive, quick and portable method of creating art.
2. Zentangle allows me as the artist to relax, relieve stress and take my mind off of the problems of life.
3. Learning and sharing Zentangle has allowed me to meet many great new people both through social media and in my community.
4. Using Zentangle techniques combined with other art forms- such as painting, glass engraving, drawing, fabric art, etc, -has greatly enhanced and improved the art I create.
5. Zentangle gives me the great feeling of accomplishment and success.
6. My need create and to share the gift of Zentangle with others has re-energized my life.
Yes, Zentangle is just that great…. Give it a try!

Zentangle® is a hot new national creative craze. Wantabe artists are finding this craze fun and relaxing. Tanglers, as Zentangle artists call themselves, use this technique to create one-of-a-kind artistic works.
The Zentangle® art form and method was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas and is copyrighted. Zentangle® is a registered trademark of Zentangle, Inc. Learn more at zentangle.com.
Zentangle is a structured way of creating small, normally about 3” x 3”, black and white works of art using a fine line inking pen. The supplies required are limited and very inexpensive. Once the Zentangle technique is learned it may be applied to many other artistic or crafting projects including drawing, painting and scrap booking. The most important part of Zentangle is the creative process. While using repeated simple marks to create very complex designs your mind and body is able to de-stress and relax. The beautiful finished product also does great things for the tanglers confidence and self esteem. A student doesn’t have to worry if they can’t draw. The Zentangle step by step technique is for everyone, no matter the artistic talent or lack thereof.
Classes include the Zentangle process, materials and basic “tangles”. Only one class will allow you to enjoy the basics this great hobby.

I attended a great reception last Friday for the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series Detroit Finale. I was introduced as one of the semi-finalists and my painting was displayed.

I did not win but I learned a lot. I think this experience will give me the courage to approach more local galleries with my art.

After I got off work today I checked my telephone messages. I returned a call and reached a Detroiit Art gallery (N’Namdi) . After I identified myself I was asked, “When will you bring in your piece for the art show?”
Now, I knew that there was an art show for the Detroit Region finalist in the Sapphire Artist contest comiing soon. But since I hadn’t heard anything I had chalked up my three entries into the contest as great experience. When the woman on the phone proceeded to tell me I was a finalist and that they had sent three prior emails to notify me. She said she needed my painting -Old School Music – in Detroit ready to hang by 6PM today. It was then 3PM
Well to make a long story short, I made ti the the gallery with fifteen minutes to spare. My entry is one of about 15 – 20 finalists. All fininalist will be in a show at the gallery The next 2 weeks. The big opening reception and judging is Friday evening at the G. R. N’Namdi Gallery, 52 Forest, near Wayne State’s Campus.
I am still in shock. when I returned from Detroit this evening I checked my computer. And sure enough, in my spam folder was the letter notifying me that I was a finalist and the instructyions for the gallery showing.

The funny thing is I liked my two other entries better!

Zentangle on Hotel Coaster

Hotel Coaster
This week I became a Certified Zentangle Teacher. As most of you know Zentangle (registed trademark) is a process of creating art developed by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. Zentangle doesn’t only create art but is a great relaxation technique. The process is just as great as the result!
Rick and Maria were our wonderful instructors and host for the 10th CZT seminar. Everything was first class.
I plan to teach Zentangle – so contact me if you are interested in a class. Check out Zentangle.com if you want more information about Zentangle.

This sky was painted using water mixable oils. I was thinking of painting tree tops and a bird. But I have never done a realistic bird.
