  2. Brag About Your Art

    January 22, 2012 by Administrator

Brag about your art using a dollar store brag book.  I converted these dollar store brag books into portable portfolios.

This is a simple project – just paint the cover  of a brag book with your favorite  simple design.  Then fill the book with 4″ x 6″ pictures of your various projects.  Carry these brag books in your purse or bag of crafting/painting supplies.  Now you have a portable portfolio ready to show off your work!

  3. I’m Graduating- A New Entrepreneur

    December 9, 2011 by Administrator

I enrolled in a 10-week course for entrepreneurs  offered through the local Small Business and Technology Development Center. For a reasonable cost, the course offers training in starting and running a business based on the FASTRAC – New Venture Program from the Kauffman Foundation. I found this class through my local community college.

I have learned a great  deal. Cash  flow, financing, legal structure, social networking and many other subjects were discussed by weekly presenters from the local business community. The goal of the course is for each participant to create a business plan. Private coaching is also available.

I have also learned a lot from my fellow participants which are all present or future entrepreneurs.  This class has been great and has helped me create a solid business plan.

  4. Simple One Stroke Greeting Cards

    July 7, 2011 by Administrator

    Simple One Stroke Greeting Cards

These simple greeting cards were painted on watercolor paper using Plaid Folk Art paints.

The background is painted first.  I used a dampened brush to slightly wet the paper.  I added the muted stripes of bright color allowing the colors to bleed.

The vines, ferns and leaves were painted after the background dried. The foreground plants were painted using black/licorice paint and floating medium together on the brush.

  5. Zentangle plus tradition equals ?

    July 5, 2011 by Administrator

What do you get when you combine the lines, patterns and limited palette of Zentangle with traditional decorative painting?  I say you get great fun and great art too!

  6. I am Busy!

    June 19, 2011 by Administrator

I have been very busy lately.

    Face painting

    Examiner.com

This week I face painted at a local community event. See the newspaper coverage by clicking the face painting link.

I posted my first article with Examiner.co, an online newspaper. I am the new Lansing, MI, Arts and Crafts Examiner. I have included a link above.

Next week is the big yard sale (weather permitting). I have worked hard to sort and purge the mountain of crafting supplies I own. I have much more work to complete by Saturday. I will also sell hand painted greeting cards and other artwork.

For readers in the Lansing Michigan area:

The Big Sale is Saturday and Sunday June 25 and 26 starting a 9:00 AM.  Send me an email for the address if you are interested.

Here’s an update on what’s happening at

    CelestinePaints.

My next One Stroke painting classes  at the Lett’s Center will begin the first week of October, 2011. I will have a class during the day (Tuesdays) and one in the evening (Wednesdays).   The Evening class will be on Wednesday and begin at 5:30 PM.  The New Lansing Parks and Recreation schedule should be out the first week of September.

If you have any other ideas on where I may teach One Stroke painting please let me know.  If you would like to have a One Stroke painting party at your home I can set that up for you  and teach.  There are many easy fun things we can do for an adult or children’s party.  One Stroke painting makes for a really fun get together with ” just the girls”.

I am working with Community Mental Health and I hope to begin teaching One Stroke lessons to CMH clients.

This summer I will attend the national conference offered by Donna Dewberry.  I plan to bring back new ideas for our fall classes.

I took one Zentangle lesson and now I am hooked.  Sheryl Lemarand of East Lansing is a great CZT, Certified Zentangle Teacher. You can contact her at sal651@hotmail.com for more information on lessons.

Zentangle is a great way to de-stress.  It is a very portable and inexpensive hobby. You can check out www.zentangle.com for more information.

I will Face Paint at the Lansing Juneteenth  Celebration – June 18th at St Joe Park.  Hope to see you there.

As always you can reach me by email celestine@celestinepaints.com.  Check out my website for more information on CelestinePaints, www.celestinepaints.com/home

Coming soon, I recently became the Lansing Arts and Crafts Editor for Examiner.com – an online news source.  I will let you know when my first article comes out.  Also, I have begun to study with an online book publisher. Maybe some day soon I will have an e-book to tell you about!

    Keep being creative!

  8. Zen Greeting Cards

    May 30, 2011 by Administrator

I used watercolor color greeting cards and Zentangle inspired techniques to create these cards.  This was great fun.  I can create the cards while sitting in front of the TV or visiting with friends and family.

  9. I heart graffiti!

    May 21, 2011 by Administrator

I just love graffiti. These pics are from a legal graffiti wall in our area. It was starting to rain so I had to take pictures from the car.

The creativity and the colors are always great. I would love to get that feel in my work!

  10. It’s Finished – Portrait Painting

    May 4, 2011 by Administrator

I have finished my portrait painting project.  I painted this in oils which I seldom use.  I used water soluable oils which are easier to use than traditional oils with less smell.  Now, I have to wait at least a two weeks for this painting  to dry. (That part I hate).

I will finish the Carder Method for portraits video this weekend and I will try another portrait. Who should I paint next? Painting great  a looking man is really fun! :-)   Any suggestions?????
